Around 1915, this village was commonly called Bigalı, but the sources also show older local names such as Boğalı and Çamyayla. No single exact official name for the whole area is clearly fixed in the notes, so the safest historical label is Bigalı, in the Eceabat area of the Gallipoli Peninsula.

In April 1915, Bigalı and its surroundings became a military base for the 19th Division, the reserve force of the Ottoman Fifth Army. Troops were stationed here, drilled in the village, and waited until the morning of 25 April before moving toward the front. Mustafa Kemal stayed in a local house during this time, making the village part of the campaign’s command landscape. The place was still a small rural settlement, with local houses, a village square, and roads leading between the settlement and the surrounding fields and hills.
